On December 27, 1984, in the annex of Maraypata in Churcampa, the villagers confronted a group of the PCP-SL that tried to punish them for having formed peasant patrols. In the confrontation, several subversives died and were buried nearby. In April of the following year, a subversive detachment of approximately 20 people carrying various weapons entered the community of Maraypata again, but the residents of Paccay responded immediately and a hail of stones killed four subversives, while the others were detained and handed over to the military troops at the Churcampa base. This confrontation was part of the resistance of the villagers organized in peasant patrols against the PCP-SL incursions.
