Adoption of the Convention against Torture, which is later ratified by Peru
On December 10, 1984, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment was adopted and entered into force for Peru on August 6, 1988. This Convention established universal jurisdiction for the crime of torture and led to the incorporation of the crime of torture in the Peruvian Criminal Code of 1991.
