In December 1984, soldiers from the Hualla base detained community members from the district. The victims were subjected to torture and later disappeared. This event was part of a context of generalized violence in the province of Víctor Fajardo during 1984, a year in which there were multiple murders by both the PCP-SL and the military forces. The Hualla military base had been established in 1983 along with other bases in Tiquihua and Chincheros to control the area under Shining Path influence.
