Statement by Minister of War Julián Juliá Freyre on support for the next administration

The Minister of War, General EP Julián Juliá Freyre, made public statements reiterating the broadest support of the Peruvian Army to the next government to be elected by the people. In his statements, the minister affirmed that there was no fear within the Peruvian Army in the eventuality of Izquierda Unida (IU) coming to power. Furthermore, he stated that the electoral result would not produce transformations within the Peruvian Army. These statements were made in a political context of preparation for the 1985 general elections and in the midst of debates on the role of the Armed Forces against subversion.
