National strike

National strike held in November 1984 in Peru, the last of its kind until May 1987. It took place in the context of a serious economic crisis during the Belaúnde government.

In November 1984, a national strike was held in Peru, the last of its kind before the end of the social truce in May 1987. This strike took place in the context of an economic crisis that had severely affected Peruvian industrialists since 1983. The protest measure took place during the Belaúnde administration, in a period when the Peruvian productive system was considered 'in rubble' according to business leaders. The strike was called by the labor unions and marked an important moment in the country's labor conflict before the change of government.
