Offensive by the PCP-SL in Puno

The PCP-SL destroyed the SAIS Quenamari in San Anton and took the towns of Chupa and Azángaro in the province of Azángaro, Puno, as part of an offensive that began on October 5, 1984.

On October 5, 1984, the PCP-SL began an offensive in the province of Azángaro, department of Puno. During this action, they destroyed the SAIS Quenamari in San Anton and took the towns of Chupa and Azángaro. This offensive was part of the PCP-SL's actions to expand its presence in the south of the country. The event occurred in a context of escalating political violence at the national level during 1984.
