The PCP-SL set fire to the Franciscan Mission of Cutivireni in the Tambo River, along with a farm and nearby houses. This attack marked the beginning of systematic violent actions by the PCP-SL in the central jungle, after a work of penetration and recruitment of native community leaders that began in 1984.
