Hilario Ayuque Zúñiga, General Secretary of the Intersectoral Confederation of State Workers (CITE) and member of the Huancavelica Human Rights Commission, was arrested on September 20, 1984 at his home by a group of armed people in civilian clothes. His captors put him in a military truck near the Hotel de Turistas and took him away to an unknown destination. This case is part of a pattern of detentions and forced disappearances carried out by State agents against social leaders and human rights defenders during the period of most intense violence in Huancavelica. Ayuque Zúñiga never reappeared and is considered disappeared.
