Reorganization of Ronderos in 1988
In 1988, a reorganization of the Ronderos, local defense groups in Peru, was initiated to combat threats from insurgent groups like the PCP-SL. This initiative led to significant psychological and social impacts on the participants, including trauma and family disruptions. Despite the absence of insurgent threats in some areas for years, many Ronderos remain reluctant to relinquish their arms, fearing future instability.

Señala que muchos ronderos han quedado enfermos, traumatizados e incluso con problemas mentales, afectando su vida familiar y hogar. Expresa culpa por haber impulsado esta reorganización, especialmente al enfrentar a las viudas de ronderos fallecidos que lo responsabilizaban.
