General Adrián Huamán Centeno is relieved of his duties as political-military chief of the emergency zone.

On August 28, 1984, General EP Adrián Huamán Centeno was relieved of the political-military command of the emergency zone and replaced by Colonel EP Wilfredo Mori Orzo. The relief took place in a context of serious allegations of human rights violations in the area, including disappearances and the discovery of mass graves.

On August 28, 1984, by means of a brief communiqué, the Joint Command of the Armed Forces announced the relief of General EP Adrian Huaman Centeno from the political-military command of the emergency zone. The official communiqué indicated that for the convenience of the service and in accordance with the regulations in force, the Peruvian Army appointed as Accidental General Commander of the Second Infantry Division, Colonel EP Wilfredo Mori Orzo, who would assume the political-military command of the emergency zone. According to Caretas magazine, the President's decision to dismiss Huamán Centeno, although it was officially claimed that his statements were inappropriate, may have had a much greater background related to an alarming series of recent events in the emergency zone, including reports of disappearances, the case of journalist Jaime Ayala Sulca, peasant leader Jesús Oropesa Chonta and the discovery of mass graves in Pucayacu. Days before his dismissal, on July 1, the Army General Command had denied versions about his possible dismissal.
