Pucayacu grave find

On August 22, 1984, a mass grave was discovered in Pucayacu, Huanta, with fifty unrecognizable corpses that had been burned with acid. The victims had been taken by members of the Navy from the Municipal Stadium of Huanta around August 16.

On August 22, 1984, a mass grave was found in Pucayacu with fifty unrecognizable corpses, as they had apparently been burned with acid. Around August 16, members of the Navy, stationed in the Municipal Stadium of Huanta, had taken fifty people who had been detained there to the town of Pucayacu. On August 24, the Armed Forces Joint Command issued a communiqué suggesting that the bodies found in the Pucayacu grave were those of PCP-SL members killed in confrontations with the Armed Forces. The discovery of this mass grave caused a commotion in political circles and was mentioned along with other reports of disappearances and human rights violations.
