Mass arrest of 42 Culluchaca community members
42 community members of Culluchaca were massively arrested by montoneros and the Navy, their houses were ransacked and burned.
On August 10, 1984, 42 community members from Culluchaca were detained by members of the 'Montoneros' (Self-Defense Committees) from Patasucro, Cachas, Janes and members of the Marine Infantry. The Montoneros showed up heavily armed with sticks, knives, and rapiers, looted belongings, grain, clothing, kitchen utensils and animals, and took the villagers prisoner. They then proceeded to set fire to the houses, leaving the entire community deserted. About 200 neighbors witnessed the mass arrest. The sailors communicated by radio with their superiors to verify names and ask if they should transfer them to the stadium. The detainees were taken tied by the hands to the Municipal Stadium of Huanta.
