Mass arrest in Uyuvirca during Santiago's festivities

Navy contingent arrested several people during the celebration of the feast of St. James in Uyuvirca.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. on August 2, 1984, a contingent of Marines arrested several people while they were celebrating the feast of St. James in the home of Concepción de la Cruz Urpay. They were arrested Teófilo Munárriz Velásquez, Concepción de la Cruz Urpay, her daughter Adela Hidalgo de la Cruz (16 years old), Herminio Torre Velasques, Eustaquio de la Cruz and Gerardo Gonzáles Guzmán. The detainees were taken to the Municipal Stadium of Huanta. Herminio Torre and Eustaquio de la Cruz were killed at a short distance because they could not walk. Gerardo Gonzáles was taken naked with only a trusa.
