Meeting of farmers in Vinchos

Massive meeting in Vinchos with approximately 8,000 peasants from 44 communities organized in peasant patrols, with the participation of General Adrián Huamán Centeno, head of the political-military command of Ayacucho.

In August 1984, the new head of the political-military command, General Adrián Huamán Centeno from Andahuaylino, participated in a meeting in Vinchos that brought together approximately eight thousand peasants from 44 communities that had organized themselves into peasant patrols. This meeting represented a significant moment in the consolidation of peasant self-defense organizations in the region. The event took place in a context where peasant communities were massively organizing against the PCP-Sendero Luminoso, after having suffered their abuses and assassinations of communal authorities. The meeting evidenced the change of strategy of the Armed Forces towards a greater support to the peasant patrols.
