Massacre of 36 people in Morcolla
On July 28, 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out its bloodiest raid in Morcolla, killing 36 people and destroying some 60 houses. This was the third and most violent Shining Path attack against this locality of Lucanas, Ayacucho.
On July 28, 1984, a column of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso raided the town of Morcolla, in the province of Lucanas, Ayacucho. This was the bloodiest of the three Shining Path incursions recorded in Morcolla during 1983-1984. The Shining Path column killed 36 people during this raid. In addition to the murders, the attackers looted and burned approximately 60 houses in the town. This attack was part of a campaign of terror by the PCP-SL against communities that showed resistance or were accused of collaborating with the forces of law and order.
