Murder of peasant leader Jesús Oropesa

On July 27, 1984, the Civil Guard arrested and assassinated in Puquio the peasant leader Jesús Oropesa, burning his corpse. The case had great national relevance as an example of police brutality.

On July 27, 1984, members of the Civil Guard detained and assassinated in Puquio the peasant leader Jesús Oropesa, burning his corpse, which was not found until August 10. Oropesa was a leader of the national CNA and of the Uteq community, and proposed the maintenance of the Viseca hacienda as a communal enterprise. Members of the Pusa family, defeated in the communal elections, wanted to divide the property into plots and became the intellectual authors of the murder. This case had the greatest national relevance and became an example of police brutality in the area.
