Press release on measures against narcoterrorism

Official communiqué of July 6, 1984 in which President Belaunde Terry and the Joint Command of the Armed Forces announced new measures and instructions to eradicate narcoterrorism with the participation of the Armed Forces.

On July 6, 1984, an Official Communiqué was published in which the President of the Republic Fernando Belaunde Terry and the members of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces analyzed the new measures to be taken against narcoterrorism. The communiqué gave instructions to eradicate narcoterrorism with the participation of the Armed Forces. This communiqué followed the increase of terrorist actions in June 1984 and a previous meeting between General EP Adrian Huaman Centeno and President Belaunde Terry on July 2. The Minister of the Interior, Luis Pércovich Roca, later stated that it had not been considered convenient to implement a state of siege, although the government did extend the state of emergency for thirty days throughout the country.
