Second Shining Path attack on Aucayacu; police reprisal executed 8 detainees with grenades
The PCP-SL attacked the new Civil Guard post in the town's main market, resulting in the death of several policemen. When a UMOPAR patrol was on its way from Tingo Maria to provide support, it was ambushed at the Pacae bridge, killing two policemen. When they arrived in Aucayacu, they attacked the population and proceeded to arrest 8 people who were accused of being subversives, they gathered them on the ground and destroyed them with grenades.
