Murder of peasant farmers in Huayrapata and others

On July 2, 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso murdered forty peasants in Huayrapata and other localities in the district of San Francisco, La Mar, Ayacucho, for having collaborated with the forces of law and order.

On July 2, 1984, members of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso broke into the towns of Huayrapata, San Antonio de Paterini, San Martin and Quillabamba, all located in the district of San Francisco, province of La Mar. The attackers killed forty peasants who had collaborated with the forces of law and order. This event was part of the escalation of violence that intensified throughout the country since June 22, 1984. The massacre was part of the PCP-SL's reprisal strategy against villagers considered to be collaborators of the State.
