Murder of 40 people in Ccanis

In July 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso killed 40 people in the community of Ccanis, located in the highlands of Huanta, Ayacucho. This took place during the most intense period of the internal armed conflict in the region.

In July 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso killed 40 people in Ccanis, a community located in the highlands of the city of Huanta. This event occurred in the context of the intensification of the internal armed conflict in the area, during the period of greatest violence in the provinces of Huanta, Huamanga and La Mar. The rondas of Ccaccas, Ccanis and Patasucro, in the highlands of the city of Huanta, are mentioned as examples of the armed forces' onslaught that went hand in hand with the growth of the rondas campesinas in 1984. The years 1983 and 1984 are recorded as the two years with the highest number of civilian murders in these provinces.
