In July 1984, there was an armed confrontation between the PCP-Sendero Luminoso and peasant ronderos in Trigopampa, a locality in the district of San José de Ticllas. This confrontation was part of the context of the organization of counter-subversive peasant patrols in the area, which were expanding rapidly in 1984. As a result of the confrontation, 2 ronderos were killed. This event was part of the most violent period in the region, when the peasant communities began to organize themselves into self-defense committees to confront the presence of the Shining Path.
