Public assassination of Feliciano Barreto, first president of the community of Aranguay, by hikers.
At the end of June 1984, Shining Path members led by Leoncio raided Aranguay and publicly assassinated Feliciano Barreto, the community's first president. This selective assassination was part of the PCP-SL's strategy to eliminate local authorities and community leaders who represented obstacles to their territorial control.
