On May 15, 1984, militants of the PCP-SL (Shining Path) attacked the town of Pilcas, located in the province of Andahuaylas, department of Apurimac. During this attack, the subversives killed 35 peasants. This event took place in the context of the Second Military Campaign of the PCP-SL, which took place between March and May 1984, a period characterized by intense subversive activity in the rural areas of Ayacucho, Apurimac and Huancavelica.
