Attack against Domingo García Rada
On April 24, 1984, alleged terrorists machine-gunned the vehicle of the president of the JNE, Domingo García Rada, leaving him seriously wounded and causing the subsequent death of his driver. The attack was part of the escalation of violence by the PCP-SL against state authorities in Lima.

As a consequence of the attack, García Rada's driver was later killed. This attack was part of the PCP-SL's escalation of violence in Lima during 1984, a year in which the subversive group multiplied its actions in the capital and other areas of the country. The attack against a high electoral authority was evidence of the Shining Path's strategy of attacking state institutions and their representatives.
