Execution and rape of community members in Chontacancha
Soldiers from the Lircay Military Base executed community members in Chontacancha in April 1984 and subsequently raped the widows in a subsequent raid.
In April 1984, soldiers from the Lircay Military Base raided the community of Chontacancha, department of Huancavelica. During this operation, the soldiers executed local community members. In a subsequent raid, the same soldiers raped the widows of the community members who had previously been executed. This case illustrates the pattern of sexual violence perpetrated by State agents against women in vulnerable situations, particularly widows in rural Andean areas.
