Alan García elected presidential candidate of the PAP

Alan Garcia Perez was elected presidential candidate of the PAP in internal elections held on February 12, 1984. This election positioned him as the APRA representative for the 1985 presidential elections.

On February 12, 1984, Alan Garcia Perez was elected candidate to the Presidency of the Republic in internal elections of the Peruvian Aprista Party (PAP). This election was held in the context of preparation for the 1985 presidential elections. The same month, former Minister of Economy Manuel Ulloas Elías publicly accepted his presidential pre-candidacy on February 26, engaging in a polemic with the Secretary General of Acción Popular, Javier Alva Orlandini. Garcia's designation as the APRA candidate came at a time of intense political crisis and violence in the country.
