Incursion in Carhuac

Navy military incursion in Carhuac, Santillana, which resulted in the murder of villagers in February 1984, as part of counter-subversive operations in the Huanta area.

In February 1984, members of the Marine Infantry raided the town of Carhuac, district of Santillana, province of Huanta. During this military operation, the villagers of the community were murdered. This event is part of the counter-subversive strategy implemented by the Armed Forces in the area, characterized by indiscriminate actions against the civilian population. The incursion is part of the most intense period of the internal armed conflict in the provinces of Huanta, Huamanga and La Mar, where 1984 registered the highest number of civilian victims.
