Attack on Banco de la Nación and Civil Guard post in Aucayacu

PCP-SL attack against the Banco de la Nacion and the Civil Guard post in Aucayacu on January 31, 1984. The Shining Pathists freed detainees, burned bales of coca and assassinated policemen.

On January 31, 1984, the first large-scale attack by the PCP-SL against the town of Aucayacu took place. The hikers simultaneously attacked the Banco de la Nacion and the first post of the Civil Guard, both located on Jiron Tupac Amaru. During the attack, they released people who were detained in the dungeon and took bales of coca from the police post's warehouse. The hikers set fire to the bales of coca together with the dead policemen. This attack occurred after the consolidation of Shining Path control in the areas surrounding the town.
