On January 24, 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out a new "people's trial" in the town of Morcolla, Lucanas province. During this event, four villagers were killed under the accusation of "snitching", that is, of being informers for the forces of law and order. This was the second popular trial recorded in Morcolla, after one held at the end of October 1983. Months later, on July 28, 1984, the bloodiest incursion in Morcolla occurred, when a Shining Path column murdered 36 people and looted and burned some 60 houses.
