Mayor Zamora denounces Marines for death of 50 people found in mass grave
In 1984, the then mayor of Huamanga Leonor Zamora Concha publicly blamed the Marines, stationed in the Municipal Stadium of Huanta, for the death of 50 Ayacucho residents whose bodies were found in a mass grave in the area of Pucayacu. This public denunciation was one of the actions that characterized his municipal administration and his defense of human rights, which later cost him his life in 1991.
