Killing of children and sick people during trekking retreats

Shining Path killed children and sick people who could not walk during retreats in Sello de Oro.

During Shining Path retreats into the bush, they forced the captive population to move to different bases. After three days of walking, the hikers began to kill children and old people who could not continue, saying 'he who can, will arrive; and he who cannot, will stay where he is'. The children became sick for lack of adequate food (they ate without salt or oil, only nettle and herbs) and died of anemia and hunger. The hikers hanged the sick and children who could not walk with a rope and knife, leaving them lying there like animals.
