In 1984, soldiers from the Julcamarca military base arrived in the community of Cahua following the murder of four community members by Shining Path members. The men were beaten and the women were raped in abandoned houses.
The day after the murder of four community members by the Shining Path, a group of 20 or 30 soldiers from the Julcamarca military base arrived in the community of Cahua in 1984. The men were beaten and the women were taken into abandoned houses. In these abandoned houses, the women were sexually assaulted by the soldiers. This event is part of a pattern of military reprisals against civilian populations suspected of having links to subversive groups.
