In 1984, members of the Vilcashuamán Sinchi station committed serious abuses against the civilian population in the Muyurina community. The Sinchis looted farms and animals, arbitrarily detained people, disappeared them and raped women. These acts were part of a systematic pattern of sexual violence and repression against communities suspected of having links with subversive groups. Rape was part of the reprisals by military personnel against the civilian population during the years of greatest violence in the region.
