Abuses by sinchis of Vilcashuamán

In 1984, Sinchis from the Vilcashuamán police station committed serious abuses against the civilian population, including looting, arbitrary detentions, disappearances and rape of women.

During 1984, members of the Vilcashuamán Sinchi station committed serious abuses against the civilian population. One affiant recounts that these police officers looted farms and animals, arbitrarily detained people, disappeared them and raped women. These abuses were part of a broader pattern of violence against the civilian population in the context of the internal armed conflict. The testimony documents the systematic involvement of special police forces (sinchis) in acts of sexual violence, robbery and forced disappearances in the area.
