Murder of CORAH workers and destruction of police post in Aucayacu

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated CORAH project workers and destroyed the Aucayacu police post in 1984, as part of its strategy to establish political hegemony in the Upper Huallaga.

In 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated a group of workers of the Control and Reduction of Coca Cultivation in Alto Huallaga (CORAH) project and destroyed the Aucayacu police post. This action was part of the PCP-SL's strategy to achieve political hegemony in the Alto Huallaga area. The attack followed a first subversive action in 1983 against the CORAH installations located in Tingo Maria. With these actions, the PCP-SL tried to channel the regional struggles and those of the producers' committees into its own political agenda, and also initiated the establishment of its social order in the region.
