In 1984, there was already a nucleus of MRTA (Movimiento Revolucionario Túpac Amaru) militants in Huancayo. This group began to participate in debates and acts of protest carried out at the National University of Central Peru (UNCP) by students. The presence of the MRTA in the central region marked the beginning of its subversive activity in this area of the country. The struggle with the Communist Party of Peru-Sendero Luminoso (PCP-SL) for those spaces was evident since 1986.
