Founding of the Unified Mariateguista Party (PUM)

The PUM was founded in 1984 as a result of the unification of sectors of the new Peruvian left, proposing to adapt Marxism-Leninism to the national reality with emphasis on agrarian reform and regionalization.

The Unified Mariateguist Party (PUM) was founded in 1984 from the process of unity of the so-called new left. The party proposed to adapt Marxism-Leninism to the Peruvian reality. Its proposal for the department of Puno included the democratic restructuring of the land, the construction of the San Gaban hydroelectric plant and the regionalization of the country. The PUM had a significant presence in the southern Andean region during the 1980s.
