The inhabitants of Chopccas formed self-defense patrols in 1984 to defend themselves from the PCP-SL, successfully repelling Shining Path columns and limiting the military presence.
In 1984, the inhabitants of Chopccas agreed to defend themselves from PCP-SL militants by forming self-defense patrols. These patrols successfully repelled Shining Path columns attempting to enter the area. The organization of the rondas also had the effect of limiting the presence of military patrols in the area. This self-defense initiative took place in the context of military pressure and the installation of counter-subversive bases in the province of Huancavelica since the end of 1984.
