In the first half of 1984, there were mass killings of Lucmahuayco villagers by law enforcement and ronderos. The town, located on the right bank of the Apurimac a few kilometers upriver from Quillabamba, was razed to the ground because, according to the Inkawasi ronderos, it was "a Shining Path town". Lucmahuayco had been converted into a support base and then a Popular Committee of the PCP-SL, and had to face attacks from neighboring towns. The razing left the village in total abandonment until the return of some survivors only in 2000. The human rights organizations of Cuzco collected testimonies affirming that the deaths accumulated in the process of violence in Lucmahuayco total 120 people.
