In 1984, at approximately noon, the Shining Path members made their first incursion into the district of Pilchaca. Not finding the local authorities at that time, the Shining Path members communicated to the entire population that all authorities should resign from their posts. This first visit marked the beginning of systematic pressure by the PCP-SL on the local authorities in the area.
