Murder in Pucate cooperative

In 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the Pucate cooperative located in the district of José Crespo y Castillo, in the Huallaga basin. During this attack, the PCP-SL assassinated the President of the cooperative along with six leaders and members. This attack was part of a series of violent actions that the PCP-SL carried out in the Alto Huallaga area during 1984, including attacks on three other cooperatives in the same district of Crespo y Castillo that year. Violence in the region had begun in 1983 and intensified in 1984 with multiple attacks on state installations, cooperatives and local authorities.
