Attack on CORAH in Monzon

In 1984, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out an attack on the Coca Reduction and Eradication Project in Alto Huallaga (CORAH) in Monzon. This was the second attack on CORAH installations, following one in late 1983 in another locality. The attack resulted in the death of 19 project workers. This event was part of the beginning of the spiral of violence in the Huallaga basin that continued uninterruptedly until the second half of the 1990s.
