PCP-SL raid on Christmas eve in Uchuraccay

The PCP-SL attacked Uchuraccay on Christmas Eve 1983, killing eight villagers as part of its systematic reprisals against the community that had rebelled against the subversive organization.

On Christmas Eve 1983, the Communist Party of Peru-Sendero Luminoso carried out a new armed incursion into the community of Uchuraccay. This attack was part of a series of systematic reprisals by the PCP-SL against the community, which had staged one of the first peasant rebellions against the subversive organization in January of that same year. The attack resulted in the death of eight members of the community. This incursion was part of a pattern of violence that the PCP-SL exercised against Uchuraccay during 1983 and 1984, in retaliation for the murder of journalists on January 26, 1983 and for the peasant resistance to their presence.
