PCP-SL truce announcement
The PCP-SL announced with white flags a two-year truce in the provinces of Huamanga and La Mar, Ayacucho. Despite the announcement, the attacks continued unabated.
Most newspapers reported that the PCP-SL was announcing a two-year truce by means of white banners in the provinces of Huamanga and La Mar in Ayacucho. This announcement was made on December 21, 1983. However, the attacks both in Lima and in the interior of the country did not cease nor did they decrease in intensity after this supposed announcement of a truce. The appearance of white flags was interpreted as a sign of a temporary cessation of hostilities by the subversive organization.
