Approval of the General Budget of the Republic

The Congress approved the General Budget of the Republic on December 15, 1983, in a context of economic crisis and political violence affecting the country.

The Congress of the Republic approved the General Budget of the Republic for the following year. This approval took place in a complex political and economic context, marked by the terrorist violence of the PCP-SL and the MRTA, as well as by a serious economic crisis. The Minister of Economy Manuel Ulloas Elías had previously announced that 38% of the 1983 budget would be destined to the payment of the foreign debt. The approval of the budget took place a few days before the end of the year, in the midst of intense debates on the economic policies of Fernando Belaunde Terry's government.
