Confrontation with Sinchis in Soras

Clash between a Sinchi detachment and a PCP-SL column in Soras on December 8, 1983, resulting in the death of one of the subversives.

On December 8, 1983, a detachment of Sinchis recently installed in the Soras area clashed with a PCP-SL column. This confrontation occurred a few days after the PCP-SL executed three Soras community leaders on November 26, accusing them of being informers. As a result of the confrontation, one of the subversives was killed. The installation of the Sinchi detachment had been a response to growing tensions between the PCP-SL and the Soras community members, who were beginning to publicly reject the subversive organization's increasingly forceful demands.
