Municipal elections and victory of Alfonso Barrantes in Lima

Municipal elections were held throughout the country, and the IU candidate, Alfonso Barrantes Lingán, won the mayoralty of Lima. His victory provoked a series of expectations among his voters, especially in the popular sectors, and among the ranks of the political parties and organizations that make up the IU. For the MRTA it meant the triumph of the opposition and the predominance of a reformist position on the left.
