Massacre perpetrated by police forces in Socos, Ayacucho, in November 1983, which resulted in the murder of 34 peasants. The event received little media coverage despite its seriousness.

The Socos massacre was perpetrated by police forces in November 1983, resulting in the murder of 34 peasants. This event occurred in the same year as other significant massacres such as the Shining Path incursions in Lucanamarca and Huancasancos that left 80 dead in April. Unlike the massacre of 8 journalists in Uchuraccay in January 1983 that received wide media coverage, the Socos massacre did not receive much media attention. The event was framed in the context of the generalized violence in Ayacucho during the first years of the internal armed conflict.
