Clash in Acobamba with more than 20 deaths

Clash between alleged subversives and members of the Civil Guard in Acobamba left more than 20 dead and 15 wounded, most of the victims being innocent peasants.

On October 30, 1983 in Acobamba, alleged subversives clashed with members of the Civil Guard, leaving more than 20 dead and 15 wounded. Most of the victims were innocent peasants who were caught in the crossfire. This confrontation occurred in a context where Sendero Luminoso had intensified its actions in the area, including assassinations of peasants and attacks against public places since August of that year. The event reflects the indiscriminate violence that affected the civilian population during the early years of the internal armed conflict in Huancavelica.
