People's trial and murders in Morcolla
In October 1983, Sendero Luminoso held a "people's trial" in Morcolla against four people accused of being "shamans and government lackeys," subsequently forcing them to join their ranks.
At the end of October 1983, a Shining Path column entered the town of Morcolla and captured four people, including a teacher and a Puno merchant. They were taken to the town square and subjected to a "people's trial", accused of being "sheriffs and lackeys of the government". They were subsequently forced to join the ranks of the Shining Path. This event was part of a series of violent actions by the PCP-SL in the southern zone of Ayacucho during 1983, when the group intensified its activities in the Lucanas districts.
